Fast triage: model name (for example, Pulsacoil, Boilermate, Gledhill Systemate), whether you have any hot water, and whether cold water pressure is normal at the kitchen tap.

⚠️ Safety First (Hot Water System)

Water leaking from discharge or overflow? If you have continuous water discharge or signs of overheating, turn off the heat source (boiler) and call an engineer.

Electrical burning smell or immersion fault? Turn off the immersion spur and call an engineer.

Do not tamper with safety valves, pumps or immersion wiring. Stored hot water systems have safety components that must be serviced and replaced correctly.

Common Gledhill Problems

Gledhill symptoms and likely causes
Symptom Most Likely Cause What To Do
No hot water at all Pump failure, thermostat issue, boiler not heating coil, programmer, motorised valve or wiring fault Check programmer is on. If heating works but hot water does not, call an engineer.
Hot water runs out quickly Thermostat set low, pump not circulating, scale build up, undersized store Check settings, then book a diagnosis.
Low hot water pressure Incoming mains issue, pump or valve issue, strainer blockage, scale restriction Compare cold kitchen tap pressure to hot. If only hot is low, call an engineer.
Leaks around unit Pipework joint, valve seep, pump seal, internal component leak If safe, isolate water and call an engineer for diagnosis.
Overheating or water discharge Thermostat fault, control issue, safety component failure Turn off boiler heat source and call an engineer.

Low Hot Water Pressure

What is happening: Some Gledhill systems are pumped, and some are mains fed depending on install type. If hot pressure is weak but cold at the kitchen tap is strong, it may indicate a pump, valve, or restriction issue within the hot water system.

What to check safely: Compare cold pressure at the kitchen tap versus hot pressure. If cold is also low, it may be a mains supply issue. If only hot is low, book an engineer.

No Hot Water

Common causes: pump failure, boiler not heating the store or coil, programmer not calling, thermostat fault, motorised valve fault, wiring issues.

What to try: Check the programmer is set to hot water “On” or “Auto”. If your heating works but hot water does not, it is often a pump, valve, or control issue that needs testing.

Leaks and Discharge

What to do: If you can see water leaking around valves or pipework, do not ignore it. If there is continuous discharge or overheating signs, turn off the heat source and call an engineer.

Why These Issues Are Common in London Homes

  • Hard water: scale can restrict valves, strainers and pipework, reducing flow and recovery.
  • Older installs: pumps, valves and controls wear and fail over time.
  • High demand households: exposes sizing and recovery issues.

Gledhill Models We Work With

  • Pulsacoil: thermal store systems
  • Boilermate: thermal stores and hot water systems
  • Systemate: integrated systems
  • Other Gledhill units: if it says Gledhill on the casing, we can identify it

🔧 Hot Water Issues Plus Heating Problems?

If your Gledhill system is heated by a boiler and you also have boiler lockouts or cold radiators, it may be a system circulation or control issue. If radiators are cold at the bottom, a power flush can improve circulation. Power flush guide.

Repair or Replace?

Many Gledhill system faults are repairable, including pumps, thermostats, controls, and valves. If the unit is older and parts are limited, we can advise whether repair or replacement is more cost effective.

Servicing (Hot Water Systems)

If you need an annual service or safety check, call us and we will advise the right maintenance schedule for your specific system and install type.

Landlords and Lettings

If your property has gas appliances, stay compliant with our Gas Safety Certificate (CP12) service. For hot water system issues in rentals, we can diagnose controls, valves, pumps and stored hot water faults.
